Making a Moment: Exploratory Workshop
Using theatre methodology for designing in VR
As technology advances we must also continually advance the ways in which we make it.
Creating multi-sensory, embodied experiences is a new journey for most tech makers but it is a road well traveled by the performing arts.
I facilitated a workshop of about 20 participants wherein we explored and researched structuralist theatre frameworks. These methods create a critical distance to the form itself, which empowers designers to build deliberately within/without the sphere of expectation.
Talking about VR is like dancing about architecture. These frameworks allow teams to build a language together to fill those gaps. Participants were simultaneously researchers as well as participants within the research.
